Above is a guest room that was inspired by Coastal Living. Just because you don't live by the coast doesn't mean you can't create a room in your home with that theme. I wanted to be able to have the feeling of living there so we could enjoy it as though we were really there. The use of the outdoor fencing gives you a cottage look and when you are in this space you do feel as though you were staying at a place by the sea. All the collections we had pertaining to nautical went into this room.
Above is the same furnishings from above that we set up in our new home. Again I must have the Coastal-themed room in our home. I was able to change the room color to lighter blues. We used 3 colors of blue in this room for the ceiling, accent wall and the other walls. There is our guest room downstairs which has a bathroom attached where we carried the paint colors into this space too as seen below.
Above I painted the ceiling in the first picture above to create the feeling that the ceiling didn't exist. By having clouds and seagulls flying over head you felt like you were outdoors sleeping. The walls were painted a very dark blue so the lighter blue ceiling with the clouds kept the room from feeling too heavy and dark plus there were 3 windows in this room and the wardrobe doors were mirrored so the light was reflected all around the space.
Above is our current Master Bedroom. We used 3 colors of paint one being the accent wall behind the bed, the ceiling which is a muted light yellow and the walls which are a muted medium color yellow. There are 3 large windows to the right which allows plenty of light so the use of darker furnishings is not a problem in this space.
Above is the retreat area of the Master Bedroom where we used a love seat, 2 leather ottomans used as a coffee table, 2 chairs and the large patterned area rug to anchor the layout of the retreat. The screen is placed behind the love seat to add interest and you don't see the back of the love seat as you enter the room. It has silver leaf in the squares which reflect plenty of light from the windows.
Above is our former Master Bedroom where we used a paint treatment on the walls that started with a yellow base and then a dark umber was added on top using a rag technique. The idea was to get an Old World look that would be bright but not too sunny. The bed was put in the corner of the room so to add interest. The room was large enough to handle it. To the right of the bed is a water feature. Both myself and my husband like having the sound of running water while we sleep. It creates a "white noise" that keeps any outside noises from interrupting your night sleep. It is very peaceful.
Above is our former Master Bedroom with the "winter" bedding on. During the winter time when the days are shorter and it gets darker I like to place a lighter bedding set out to make it feel much brighter in the room. We use the black set during the spring/summer time.
